Washing & Wearing Shapewear
Washing Shapewear: How to Keep It Looking Great
1. Hand washing is best
Preferably wash your shapewear by hand in lukewarm water (max 30°C) using a mild liquid detergent. Rinse it well but do not wring it out, to preserve the elasticity.
2. Avoid fabric softener or bleach
Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or wool detergent (like Woolite), as these can damage the elasticity of your shapewear.
3. Machine wash? Only with care
If you choose to machine wash your shapewear, always use a delicate cycle at a maximum of 30°C and no more than 800 RPM. Place it in a laundry bag to prevent damage.
4. Air drying is essential
Never tumble dry your shapewear or place it on a radiator. Let it air dry, ideally laid flat, to maintain its shape and stretch. Do not iron it.
Putting On Shapewear: Do It the Right Way
1. Protect your shapewear from damage
Remove rings, bracelets, and watches before putting on your shapewear—they can snag the fabric. Be careful with long or sharp nails as well.
2. Always put it on from bottom to top
Start by stepping into your shapewear and gently work it up. Never pull it over your head. This makes it easier to put on, ensures a better fit, and helps maintain the fabric’s stretch.
3. Grip the fabric firmly
When pulling it up, hold onto a good portion of the fabric, not just the edges. This prevents seams and hems from tearing.
4. Extra tips for a perfect fit
A high-waist brief stays in place better if you tuck the top edge under your bra band. So always put on your shapewear first, then your bra.
Wearing a shapewear top and afraid it might ride up? Tuck it into your skirt or trousers to keep it in place.
By following these steps, your shapewear will feel more comfortable, stay in place better, and last much longer.
